  Protaras Fig Tree Bay

Protaras is renowned for its beach – called the Fig Tree Bay. The beach is marked by a fig tree
which, according to local legend, was brought by invaders in the 17th century. And curiously enough there is the island's oldest fig tree in the grounds of a taverna at Fig Tree Bay.

The golden-white fine sandy beach of Protaras Fig Tree Bay stretches over 10 km and gently slopes into the Mediterranean blue sea. Fig Tree Bay beach was much of the reason for the development of Protaras. It is a winner of the EU Blue flag for its quality and facilities.

There is a small island a few hundred meters from the beach, which many swimmers visit to explore. Those who do venture there should take shoes because the island is made up of very sharp rocks.

Protaras Fig Tree Bay is famous and favourite among visitors and local Cypriots. It is quieter than other beaches in Cyprus and has all to offer to a good holiday including children if you come with your family. Secluded beaches and rocky inlets are a short distance away at the Cape of Cave Greco from where you can also view a fantastic sun set.

Protaras Fig Tree Bay’s main attractions revolve around its blue seas. Water sports of all kinds are readily available - from scuba diving to water skiing and paragliding. The rocky coves that dot the coastline are ideal for relaxing, and their golden sands attract discerning sun seekers from all over the globe.

Protaras Fig Tree Bay is ideal for children to play in the water. The gently shelving beach offers safe play and swimming for kids. There are no hills or steep climbs to worry parents with very young children.
